The Concord Community Club

Concord , Sydney

Altis Architecture worked closely with the project team, builder Calida Projects, project manager Colligo Projects, consultants ACOR Consultants Lucian Architectural Lighting and key stakeholders at The Concord Community Club with an outstanding result. The aim of the project was to create a vibrant community hub, welcoming families and friends from all demographics to the venue. And to enrich and strengthen the community by celebrating Croatian culture collectively.

The Croatian Club sold its old site at Punchbowl and purchased the Concord RSL and Bowling Club. The Club needed to be fully renovated for the exciting brief. As a community gathering space, the focus for the design was to be on food and socialising. The upgraded spaces include a new entry, lobby and reception area, amenities and gaming upgrade. Also, a new sports bar, and flexible function space, including a pre-function guest lounge. Additionally, a vast, airy dinning space that captures natural light through a vaulted ceiling with skylights within. This space connects to an alfresco dining area that is anchored around an outdoor Croatian pizzeria.

The spirit of Croatia is captured via design gestures throughout the building. National colours derived from the country flag and natural beauty have been appropriated into the design. High quality stone, Brac, has been directly imported from Croatia, and used throughout the scheme. The characteristic blonde coloured stone is a part of Croatian history and links ones back to the stunning architecture and landscapes found in Croatia.

“The local community now has a venue where they can come and enjoy,”
