Strathfield Golf Club

Strathfield, Sydney

Winner of USA Golf Inc. Magazine 3rd Best Clubhouse in the World 2019.

Altis Architecture won the initial design competition to produce this incredible building. Since then it has attracted widespread media attention and won the prestigious international competition 3rd best clubhouse in the world with US Golf Inc. Magazine up against clubs in the United States, Europe and Asia. This highly sculptural building was born from the concept of forms experienced in the game of golf. The curvature of the rolling greens, the undulating edges of the sand bunkers and the elliptical shape of the ‘driver’ golf club. The later was particularly drawn upon as influence for the building form itself resembling the shape of three driver heads. The ground floor accommodates all the social activities of the Club within three ‘pavilions’, each having panoramic views over the golf course. The curved forms of these pavilions are connected by interstitial public areas which have framed vistas over particular parts of the course. The feedback from the members and patrons alike so far has been incredibly positive and we look forward to its future use and enjoyment by the community. The award winning new clubhouse has been used as a selling point for local real estate and attracted many for usage for weddings, functions and other events.

It is very satisfying to win this award and be recognised as a newly built Clubhouse of the Year in an internationally judged competition where we were up against clubs in the United States, Europe and Asia. It has been a long seven-year project from the time we decided to sell our practice fairway and clubhouse site to when we finally relocated from one side of the course and moved into the new clubhouse in September 2018 on the other side of the course. Special thanks to Altis architects who designed this amazing and iconic clubhouse- there is nothing else like it.
