Martha - Belmont 16s
Belmont, NSW
Martha is an elevated cocktail bar and dining destination at Belmont 16s, inspired by the rich maritime history of Lake Macquarie. Named after the Martha—a 30-tonne sailing ship captained by William Reid in the 1800s during a coal-gathering voyage from Sydney that led to the lake’s discovery—the venue blends heritage with contemporary sophistication.
Flooded with natural light, the space opens onto expansive terraces that offer sweeping views across the water. A series of pitched roofs, echoing the rhythm of traditional boat sheds, house large skylights that draw daylight deep into the interior. The connection between inside and out is enhanced by terraces that wrap the building’s façade, creating a seamless transition to the lake’s edge.
The design palette draws from soft pastels reminiscent of coastal sunrises and sunsets, while a dramatic sage-green servery and open kitchen take centre stage, accented with warm copper and brass detailing. At the heart of the culinary experience are Mibrasa ovens, delivering refined dishes with depth and character. Woven throughout the architecture, branding, and menu is a thoughtful homage to the site’s history—culminating in a venue that exceeds expectations and leaves a lasting impression.
