Gaythorne RSL Club

Mitchelton, Brisbane

The renovation at Gaythorne RSL Club has been an investment for success. This well-loved historic venue has always been a space devoted to the local community. Built in the 1950’s, the Club aimed to retain its heritage, culture and memorabilia. Furthermore, to strategically transform the Club into a modern space that attracts a wider demographic whilst preserving its existing members.

The result has been a triumph. The upgrade begins with a bold new contemporary façade and entry that draws natural light into the building. A new café, ‘The Patisserie’, has been strategically located at the front of the Club. It consists of a modern, neutral palette, with views to the streetscape. The paired back open plan provides a fresh and inviting area that expands engagement with the Club.

The Bistro has been fully upgraded. The design includes an island bar and draws inspiration on the sub-tropical aesthetic of the local area. This aesthetic continues in the upgraded gaming area that includes a new sports bar and TAB. Overall the project has been very well received.

The entire reason for this major renovation was to protect the RSL’s revenue in the next few years by enhancing the hospitality side of the club to compete in a challenging market. This investment in the venue’s future has already paid off, as we are seeing increased membership… the renovation has not only positioned the club for continued success in an ever evolving market but has also positively impacted the community.
